Scar correction

Scars usually result from surgery, skin injuries, burns, or acne. They are the outcome of the body’s natural healing processes. Many people find their scars bothersome because they visually stand out due to their altered texture compared to the surrounding skin. Acne scars on the face, in particular, can be especially distressing, as they are difficult to conceal.

How is a scar treatment performed?

Effective Scar Treatments for Long-Lasting Results

Subcision

Subcision is a minimally invasive procedure for atrophic scars, such as acne scars. The treated area is first numbed. Using a fine needle or a blunt surgical cannula, the fibrotic tissue beneath the scar is released, breaking the connection between the scar and surrounding tissue. This creates space under the scar and stimulates new collagen formation. The healing process involves a minor bruise, which promotes tissue growth and realignment.

CO2 Laser Treatment

Before CO2 laser treatment, a numbing cream is applied to the targeted skin area. For superficial irregularities, the laser removes only the top layers of skin. Deeper scars require a longer regeneration period, as the laser penetrates deeper to stimulate cellular renewal, which can provide more sustainable long-term results. Initial effects are often visible just a few days after the procedure.

PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) Treatment

Blood is drawn from the arm vein, centrifuged, and chemically processed to obtain PRP. The plasma is then gently injected into the targeted skin region. This procedure is well tolerated and typically lasts about an hour.

Vampire Lift

The Vampire Lift at LIVION uses PRP for rejuvenation and is similarly well tolerated, taking around one hour.

Morpheus8 Treatment

During Morpheus8™, microneedles penetrate the skin at predetermined depths of 2–4 mm while radiofrequency energy is simultaneously delivered. This combination can stimulate collagen production and skin regeneration. After an initial immediate effect, about two months are needed for natural skin renewal, enhanced by radio-thermolysis. The results achieved through natural tissue rebuilding are long-lasting.

What you need to bear in mind after treatment

Aftercare following scar treatment

After treatment, temporary swelling and redness may occur, but this usually subsides quickly. The recovery time varies depending on the extent of the treatment and can take between one and four days. It is recommended to moisturise the treated skin well and avoid direct sunlight, using a high sun protection factor of at least SPF 50. Sporting activities, sauna visits and the use of highly acidic cosmetics should be avoided for at least one week.

FAQ

The most frequently asked questions about scar treatment

At LIVION in Hamburg, we treat various types of scars, including acne scars, surgical scars, injury scars, and burn scars. Highly visible acne scars on the face can be significantly reduced using modern treatment methods.

We use minimally invasive procedures such as subcision, CO₂ laser treatment, Morpheus8™ technology, and PRP therapy (platelet-rich plasma). The choice of method depends on the depth, type, and location of the scar. In many cases, a combination of these methods is recommended for optimal results.

First, a thorough skin analysis is carried out and the appropriate method is selected. In subcision, the scar tissue under the skin is loosened with a fine cannula to stimulate natural healing and collagen formation. CO₂ laser treatment specifically removes superficial or deeper skin layers, promoting cell renewal. In the PRP method, prepared autologous blood is injected into the skin to activate healing processes. Morpheus8™ combines fine needles with radiofrequency energy and works down into the deeper layers of the skin. Depending on the method, the treatment takes between 30 and 60 minutes.

Initial improvements are usually visible within days to weeks. For treatments like Morpheus8™ or PRP, the effects develop over approximately two months as the skin naturally regenerates. The final results are long-lasting and can further improve with regular treatments.

The number of sessions depends on the type and severity of the scar. Multiple sessions are often required to achieve an even skin texture. An individual assessment is provided during a personal consultation.

Temporary redness or mild swelling may occur and usually resolves within a few days. The treated skin should be well-moisturized and protected from direct sunlight. Daily application of a sunscreen with at least SPF 50 is recommended. For about one week, avoid strenuous exercise, sauna visits, and highly acidic skincare products to ensure optimal healing conditions.
