Three treatment options for greater well-being

Hyperhidrosis treatment

Sweating in summer or during exercise is completely normal and even essential, as it ensures that the body loses heat so that it does not overheat. However, some people sweat more than necessary.
Stability of body temperature is necessary. In this case, we speak of excessive sweating, or in technical terms, hyperhidrosis. We can treat those suffering from primary hyperhidrosis of the armpits individually. We offer three treatment options.

What is hyperhidrosis treatment?

Treatment for excessive sweating at Livion in Hamburg

Sweating during exercise or in hot summer temperatures is completely normal. However, some people sweat more than is necessary to maintain a stable body temperature. This condition is referred to as excessive sweating or, in technical terms, hyperhidrosis. At LIVION, we offer the following treatment options:

  • Botox
  • Morpheus8™
  • Sweat gland suction

These can be used to inhibit excessive sweating, so that those affected no longer have to worry about sweat stains under their arms.

How is a hyperhidrosis treatment performed?

Various treatment options for excessive sweating

Botox against excessive sweating

The neurotoxin Botox can not only be used to treat wrinkles but also to inhibit stimulation of the sweat glands. Small amounts of Botox are injected into multiple points in the skin of the underarms. A topical anesthetic cream can be applied beforehand, but this is usually not necessary. The effects become noticeable after a few days, significantly reducing sweat production. Depending on how quickly the body breaks down the substance, the effect lasts about 6 months and should be refreshed to maintain results.

Morpheus8 against excessive sweating

Morpheus8™ is an innovative method to treat sweat glands using radiofrequency. Similar to microneedling, small needles penetrate deep into the skin where the sweat glands are located. Radiofrequency energy is then delivered to the deepest skin layers, using heat to destroy the sweat glands. An anesthetic cream is applied beforehand, and nitrous oxide can be used during the procedure for additional comfort. The result: the sweat glands responsible for excessive sweating are permanently destroyed through radiofrequency, similar to sweat gland liposuction, but without surgery. This reduces sweating long-term.

Sweat gland liposuction for excessive sweating

Sweat gland liposuction is a well-established method for sustainably treating excessive sweating, also known as hyperhidrosis. Under local anesthesia, a thin suction cannula is carefully inserted under the skin through small incisions to gently remove the sweat glands. Technically, it works like liposuction, but the cannulas used are smaller and the layer targeted is much more superficial since sweat glands lie just beneath the skin.

We often combine sweat gland liposuction with Morpheus8™ or Endo-Lift to remove sweat glands more effectively. Both methods reduce sweat glands directly under the skin using thermal energy—via injection needles with Morpheus8™ or a thin wire with Endo-Lift. The procedure is outpatient, meaning patients can go home afterward. A short rest period of about a week is recommended to allow the treated area to heal properly. The effect—reduced sweating—becomes noticeable immediately after healing.

What you need to consider after treatment

Aftercare of hyperhidrosis treatment

Proper aftercare following a hyperhidrosis treatment is essential to achieve the best results. Avoid rubbing or massaging the underarm area for 24 hours after the procedure. Refrain from physical activities for approximately 48 hours. Additionally, avoid sunbathing and sauna visits for one week to prevent potential irritation. If you have undergone sweat gland removal (suction), it is especially important to strictly follow these guidelines and avoid sun exposure and saunas for at least four weeks. Furthermore, do not undergo laser treatments in the same area for at least two weeks - unless you have had sweat gland removal, in which case the recommended waiting period is at least four weeks. These measures help ensure smooth and successful recovery after your hyperhidrosis treatment.

FAQ

The most frequently asked questions about hyperhidrosis treatment

Hyperhidrosis describes excessive sweating that goes beyond what is necessary for normal body temperature regulation. It most commonly occurs under the armpits. Affected individuals often find the sweating highly distressing, both in daily life and in social situations. At LIVION in Hamburg, we offer three modern treatment methods to effectively reduce excessive sweating.

We offer three effective options for treating hyperhidrosis: Botox injections, Morpheus8 radiofrequency treatment, and sweat gland suction (axillary liposuction). All methods aim to reduce the overactivity of the sweat glands and improve overall comfort and quality of life.

Botox is injected in small amounts directly into the underarm area. The treatment blocks nerve signals to the sweat glands, significantly reducing sweat production. The procedure is almost painless and takes only a few minutes. Initial effects can be felt within a few days and typically last about six months. Regular follow-up treatments maintain a long-lasting dry effect.

Morpheus8 combines fine microneedles with radiofrequency energy. The needles penetrate the skin and deliver targeted heat to the deeper layers where the sweat glands are located. This thermal effect can destroy the sweat glands, leading to a long-term reduction in sweating. A numbing cream is applied before the procedure, and nitrous oxide can be used during treatment for additional comfort. This method is minimally invasive, highly effective, and requires no surgery.

Sweat gland suction is performed under local anesthesia. A fine cannula is inserted through tiny skin openings to mechanically remove the sweat glands. The procedure is minimally invasive, performed on an outpatient basis, and is often combined with Morpheus8 or Endo-Lift to enhance the results. After a short recovery period of a few days, patients are usually fully ready for social activities. The effect is permanent because the removed glands do not regenerate.

The downtime varies depending on the method used. After Botox treatment, you are usually socially presentable again after 24 hours. With Morpheus8, slight redness may occur, but this usually subsides quickly. After sweat gland removal, you should take it easy for about three to five days to allow for optimal healing.

For the first 24 hours, avoid rubbing or massaging the underarm area. Exercise and strenuous activity should be avoided for about two days. Sauna visits and sunbathing should be avoided for at least one week, or four weeks after sweat gland suction. Laser treatments in the treated area should be avoided for 2–4 weeks. Regular skin care and UV protection are recommended to ensure optimal healing and results.
