With an upper arm lift, the skin and underlying tissue can be reduced and tightened, restoring harmonious proportions. There are generally different techniques for an upper arm lift, depending on your individual situation. Our doctors will determine the most suitable method for you after a thorough preoperative assessment.

How does an upper arm lift work?

Individual procedures for firm upper arms

At LIVION, we differentiate between several approaches for upper arm lifts:

Arm Lift with Incision: Before the procedure begins, the skin and fat tissue to be removed is carefully measured and marked. The incision is made on the inner arm (from the armpit to the elbow) to ensure that the resulting scar remains discreet. Excess skin and subcutaneous fat are then removed.

Depending on the patient’s individual situation, liposuction can be performed in addition to the arm lift to reduce any remaining fat deposits. A blunt metal cannula is gently inserted into the fat tissue and removed using a vibrating technique. An additional tightening effect can be achieved with the use of BodyTite technology.

The procedure is performed under general anesthesia and typically lasts 1 to 2 hours. Surgery can be performed on an outpatient or inpatient basis. If an overnight stay is required, patients remain in our clinic for one night for monitoring.

What you should consider after the procedure

Aftercare for an upper arm lift

Our practice team will support you not only before and during, but also after the surgery. You will receive prescriptions for the necessary medications and instructions for the postoperative period in your personalized treatment folder. Immediately after the surgery, you will be fitted with compression garments to support wound healing. These garments should be worn for six weeks. This minimizes the risk of wound fluid and blood accumulation, as well as the development of impaired wound healing. We also recommend lymphatic drainage therapy to our patients. Scar care in the following weeks and the subsequent follow-up examinations are very important. Please refrain from sporting activities for approximately six weeks.

FAQ

The most frequently asked questions about upper arm lift surgery

An upper arm lift, also called brachioplasty, is a surgical procedure in which excess skin and fat tissue on the upper arms are removed and the remaining tissue is tightened. The goal is to achieve slim and contoured upper arms—especially after significant weight loss or age-related skin laxity.

The upper arm lift is suitable for individuals with sagging skin on the upper arms who cannot achieve firm contours despite exercise and a healthy diet. Common causes include weak connective tissue, signs of aging, or significant weight reduction.

After a thorough pre-examination, our specialists plan the individually appropriate technique. The lift is usually performed through an incision on the inner side of the upper arm, often combined with liposuction and, if needed, complemented by BodyTite treatment for additional skin tightening. The procedure is performed under general anesthesia and takes approximately 1–2 hours.

The scar runs discreetly along the inner side of the arm—from the armpit to the elbow. Over time, it fades significantly, especially with consistent scar care and avoidance of sun exposure during the healing phase.

After surgery, a compression garment should be worn for about 6 weeks to support healing. Physical activities, heavy lifting, and sun exposure should be avoided during this period. Additionally, lymphatic drainage can positively support the healing process.

Yes, the result of an upper arm lift is generally long-lasting, provided weight remains stable. Skin elasticity may change with age, but the original lifting effect is maintained.
