As a solution for a new attitude to life

Breast lift

Breasts are a symbol of femininity. In reality, naturally firm and well-shaped breasts throughout life are rare. Due to genetics, aging, pregnancy, or significant weight loss, the female body changes: breasts lose their shape and begin to sag. Many patients come to our practice with these concerns. A breast lift, also known as mastopexy, is one of the most commonly performed cosmetic surgeries worldwide. At our Hamburg clinic, we take the time to provide individualized and comprehensive consultations, ensuring discretion and leveraging our long-standing experience in breast surgery.

What is a breast lift?

Breast lift at LIVION in Hamburg

A breast lift, also known as a mastopexy, is a surgical procedure designed to correct sagging or drooping breasts. Many of our patients choose this procedure following pregnancy or significant weight loss. The goal is to achieve firm, well-shaped breasts by removing excess skin and repositioning the nipple for a natural, youthful contour.

How does a breast lift work?

In a gentle operation for a firmer breast

At LIVION in Hamburg, a breast lift is a gentle procedure performed under general anesthesia and usually takes about 2–3 hours. Afterwards, you typically stay in our clinic overnight for monitoring.

Our goal is a harmonious breast shape that meets your individual wishes. Excess tissue is removed, the remaining breast is lifted, and the nipple is repositioned if necessary. The surgery is performed through an incision around the areola, with an additional vertical incision if there is excess skin. We use techniques that minimize scarring.

If needed, the breast lift can be combined with a breast augmentation for more volume or a reduction for a firmer breast.

What you need to bear in mind after the procedure

Aftercare following a breast lift

Our practice team will support you not only before and during the breast lift operation, but also in the subsequent phase. We will see you regularly during the first 14 days to monitor the results and the healing process. We use self-dissolving suture material during the procedure, so there is no need to remove stitches. After a breast lift, it is crucial to take it easy for the next 2–3 weeks. You can usually return to work after 7–10 days, and sporting activities are possible again after around 6 weeks.

FAQ

The most frequently asked questions about breast lift surgery

A breast lift, also called mastopexy, is a surgical procedure designed to lift sagging or drooping breasts and restore a firm, aesthetically pleasing shape. The procedure is often recommended after pregnancy, significant weight loss, or age-related changes when the breasts have lost firmness and shape.

The surgery is performed under general anesthesia and typically lasts about two to three hours. In most cases, patients can leave the clinic the same day. During the procedure, excess skin is removed, and the remaining tissue is tightened. If necessary, the nipple is repositioned to achieve a harmonious overall appearance. The incision is placed as discreetly as possible around the areola and, if needed, with a vertical incision downwards. Depending on the patient’s wishes and condition, the breast lift can be combined with augmentation using implants or reduction surgery.

Many women choose a breast lift when their breasts have lost shape and firmness due to pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight loss, or the natural aging process. The goal is to achieve an aesthetic, natural-looking result that complements the patient’s body and self-image.

The initial healing phase lasts about two to three weeks. During this time, it is important to avoid physical strain. Many patients are able to return to work after seven to ten days. However, sports and strenuous activities should only be resumed after about six weeks to ensure proper healing.

After the surgery, we provide close follow-up care at our LIVION clinic in Hamburg. Regular check-ups are scheduled during the first 14 days to monitor healing. Since we use self-dissolving sutures, later removal of stitches is not necessary. Our team is available to support you with any questions or concerns following the procedure.

The results of a breast lift are generally long-lasting, but breast tissue may change again due to natural aging or hormonal fluctuations. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle, stable body weight, and wearing a well-fitting bra can help preserve the results for as long as possible.
