The natural alternative to breast surgery with implants

Breast Augmentation with Autologous Fat

The female breast symbolizes femininity and attractiveness. For many women, their breasts are crucial to how comfortable and confident they feel in their own body. Breast augmentation with fat transfer is an option for anyone seeking moderate breast augmentation without implants. At the same time, unwanted fat can be removed from another area of the body.

Breast Augmentation with Autologous Fat at LIVION in Hamburg

Breast augmentation with autologous fat is a surgical procedure in which the patient’s own fat is transferred to the breast. In the process, the breast is reshaped and enlarged by approximately half to a full cup size. This now well-established and safe method makes it possible to create a completely natural-looking breast while at the same time removing unwanted fat deposits and enhancing body contour. An important prerequisite for this option, however, is that a sufficient amount of fat cells is available, typically in areas such as the abdomen, hips, or thighs.

How does breast augmentation with autologous fat work?

The gentle procedure for natural breast augmentation

In breast augmentation with autologous fat, fat is first gently removed from the abdomen, hips, and/or thighs, as agreed with the patient, using liposuction. If needed, the skin can be tightened with a laser during the same procedure. The harvested fat is then carefully processed and injected through small incisions around the mammary gland into the breast tissue. The procedure is performed under general anesthesia and usually takes 2–3 hours. It can be carried out on an outpatient basis, although some patients choose to stay in the clinic overnight to recover. This decision depends on the size of the treated area and the patient’s physical condition after the procedure.

What you need to consider after the procedure

Aftercare of breast augmentation with autologous fat

Our practice team will support you not only before and during but also after the surgery. You will receive prescriptions for the necessary medications as well as post-operative care instructions in advance as part of your personal treatment folder. Immediately after the surgery, a special bra will be applied. This bra, which does not compress your breasts, should be worn day and night for about 4–6 weeks. For 2–4 weeks, significant pressure on the breasts should be avoided to allow the fat cells to integrate and establish themselves in the tissue. This is important because fat cells are highly sensitive to pressure and cold. Not every transplanted fat cell will survive; a good outcome is considered when 60–80% of the transplanted fat cells take hold. Results may, however, vary from patient to patient. The remaining fat cells that do not survive will be broken down by the body. The survival rate of fat cells can be significantly improved through proper behavior and a healthy lifestyle (such as refraining from smoking) after surgery. Physical activity should also be avoided for 4–6 weeks following the procedure.

FAQ

The most frequently asked questions about breast augmentation with autologous fat

In a breast augmentation with autologous fat, fat tissue is harvested from other areas of the body, such as the abdomen or thighs, using liposuction and then injected into the breasts. This procedure allows for natural breast enlargement.

Some of the transplanted fat may be absorbed after the procedure, but the remaining fat tissue is expected to remain permanently in the breasts.

The scars are minimal since liposuction involves only small incisions. They are generally discreet and well concealed.

Using your own fat allows for a more natural and softer breast augmentation. There are no implants to replace, and no risks related to implant complications.

Not everyone is a suitable candidate for this procedure. It depends on the amount of available fat tissue and the aesthetic goals. Breast augmentation using your own fat can increase the breast size by a maximum of one cup size.

Physical rest depends on the extent of the procedure and the individual's constitution. A two-week break is usually recommended to recover fully. During this time, short walks are highly encouraged to keep circulation active and reduce the risk of thrombosis.

Exercise and sauna use should be avoided for approximately 6–8 weeks. Swimming in the sea is generally fine after 10–14 days, while chlorinated pools should be avoided for about a month. Longer walks are allowed after one to two weeks. Please note that excessive sweating on the wound, such as during exercise or in a sauna, can sometimes impair wound healing.

As a rule, an increase of approximately half to one and a half cup sizes can be achieved per session. The exact amount depends on the individual anatomy, the amount of fat available and the absorptive capacity of the breast. Several sessions may be necessary for larger increases.

Recent studies show that breast augmentation with autologous fat does not increase the risk of breast cancer. Modern imaging techniques such as mammography, ultrasound and MRI can usually distinguish well between transplanted fat, possible calcifications and malignant changes. However, it is important to inform the radiologist about the procedure.

The costs vary depending on the extent of the procedure, the amount of fat to be removed, the number of sessions required and the clinic or doctor chosen. You will receive an exact cost calculation after an individual consultation. As a rule, the costs are not covered by health insurance, as this is a cosmetic procedure.
