Clitoral hood reduction

The genital area is a very personal and sensitive part of the body. If a person finds their physical sensations in this area distressing, it can affect their well-being and self-confidence in everyday life. Some patients report feeling self-conscious in certain situations, such as when wearing tight-fitting clothing, during intimate contact, or when visiting a sauna or the beach.

What is a clitoral hood reduction at LIVION?

Gain more confidence with a clitoral hood reduction

In the area around the clitoris, our patients are often bothered by a noticeable excess of skin, either to the sides or above the clitoris. The reasons for seeking a correction vary from person to person and can be both aesthetic and personal in nature. We take the time to discuss your individual situation in detail during a personal consultation. Any concerns or uncertainties regarding a correction of the female genital area are entirely understandable. At our practice in Hamburg, we offer you discreet, non-binding and personalised advice on your options.

Clitoral hood reduction is a surgical procedure in intimate surgery designed to reduce excess skin in the area of the clitoral hood (prepuce clitoridis). The aim is a subtle adjustment of the external tissue structures in the genital area. The clitoris itself is not altered in the process. The focus is exclusively on correcting the excess surrounding skin, taking into account individual anatomical conditions.

What does a clitoral hood reduction involve?

Performing a labia minora reduction

Before the procedure, a detailed and confidential consultation takes place. During this consultation, we will discuss your wishes, your current anatomical condition and the most suitable approach.

Clitoral hood tightening is a minor surgical procedure that is generally well tolerated and carried out on an outpatient basis. The intimate treatment at LIVION in Hamburg usually takes 45–90 minutes. Depending on your preferences and the findings, the procedure is carried out under local anaesthesia or, if preferred, under general anaesthesia. You will be able to leave the clinic after just a few hours.

Our aim is to achieve a result that you are happy with. The procedure is therefore tailored to your individual needs, with any excess skin carefully adjusted to suit your anatomy. During the procedure, the tissue is removed with precision and minimal bleeding. The edges of the incision are then sutured using self-dissolving sutures. In rare cases, it may be advisable to move the clitoris further down (caudalisations).

Clitoral hood correction can be performed on its own or in combination with labia reduction or labia augmentation.

Aftercare

Aftercare following clitoral hood reduction

Our clinic team will support you not only before and during, but also after the operation. Following a clitoral hoodplasty at LIVION in Hamburg, a dressing is applied to protect the clitoris and promote better healing. This consists of an antiseptic ointment, compresses and a sanitary towel, which you can change as needed, for example after using the toilet. We use self-dissolving sutures to close the wounds during the operation. It is therefore not necessary to have the stitches removed.

Mild swelling, a feeling of tightness or bruising may occur after a clitoral hoodplasty. Regular cooling and careful, gentle intimate hygiene can support the healing process. After a clitoral hood reduction, it is particularly important that you take it easy for the following 7–10 days. Physical activity is possible after around 2–3 weeks, but more strenuous exercise and sexual intercourse should be avoided for around 4–6 weeks. The scar tissue takes several weeks to months to fully mature.

Frequently asked questions about clitoral hood correction

Clitoral hood reduction is a surgical procedure designed to remove excess skin from the clitoral hood (prepuce clitoridis). The aim is to achieve a subtle correction, resulting in a harmonious and natural appearance of the genital area.

This procedure is often chosen when a significant excess of skin around the clitoral hood is perceived as aesthetically or functionally unsightly. Often, there is also an enlargement of the inner labia, which makes the overall appearance seem disproportionate.

No. The clitoris itself is not operated on. Only excess skin in the area of the clitoral hood is removed, whilst the sensitive structures are left completely untouched.

As a rule, sensation is fully preserved, as the procedure is carried out with great precision and does not affect the sensitive anatomical structures.

Following a detailed consultation, the procedure is carried out on an outpatient basis under local anaesthetic or, if preferred, under general anaesthetic. The operation takes around 45 to 90 minutes, after which you can go home following a short period of observation.

No, it is a minor surgical procedure in the field of genital surgery, which is usually carried out on an outpatient basis.

Yes. Clitoral hood reduction is often combined with labiaplasty to achieve a particularly harmonious and balanced overall appearance of the genital area.

Mild swelling, a feeling of tightness or bruising may occur in the first few days and usually subside within 1–2 weeks. Full recovery generally takes several weeks.

Light everyday activities are usually possible after a few days. You should resume exercise after around 2–3 weeks, whilst you should refrain from sexual intercourse for around 4–6 weeks.

As with any surgical procedure, swelling, bruising or temporary changes in sensation may occur. Serious complications are rare when the procedure is performed correctly.
