What Types of Nipple Correction Are Available?

Inverted Nipple Correction

Inverted nipples (nipple inversion) are usually caused by shortened milk ducts or connective tissue structures that pull the nipple inward. Depending on the severity, the nipple may remain permanently inverted or may temporarily protrude.

Surgical correction of inverted nipples can permanently restore the nipple to a protruding position. In more pronounced cases, it may be necessary to divide shortened milk ducts. This can affect the ability to breastfeed, which is why any plans for future pregnancy and breastfeeding are taken into consideration when planning the procedure.

Nipple Reduction

If the nipples are naturally enlarged or have increased in size following pregnancy and breastfeeding, nipple reduction can help create a more harmonious appearance. The size and shape of the nipple are individually adjusted to suit the proportions of the breast.

Nipple Shortening

For elongated or strongly protruding nipples, nipple shortening can be performed. The aim is to achieve a natural shape with minimal visible scarring and harmonious, long-lasting proportions.

Correction of Asymmetrical Nipples

Nipples that differ in size or shape can be balanced through nipple correction. The procedure can also often be combined with breast augmentation, breast reduction or a breast lift.

Nipple Correction Procedure

Before every nipple correction procedure, a thorough examination and personal consultation are carried out. Together, we discuss your wishes, assess your individual anatomy and select the surgical technique best suited to you. Each nipple correction is planned individually to achieve a result that is as natural and long-lasting as possible.

Nipple correction is usually performed on an outpatient basis and takes approximately 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the procedure. The necessary corrections are performed through small, discreet incisions wherever possible. The nipple is then stabilized with fine sutures and protected with a dressing.

Aftercare Following Nipple Correction

Mild swelling, bruising or a feeling of tightness is normal after nipple surgery and usually subsides within a few days to several weeks.

During the first few weeks, pressure on the breasts and strenuous physical activity should be avoided. Regular follow-up appointments allow us to monitor the healing process and support optimal, discreet scar healing.

FAQ

The most frequently asked questions about nipple correction

Nipple correction is suitable for patients who are concerned about inverted, enlarged or elongated nipples, or asymmetry in nipple shape, and who would like to achieve a more harmonious appearance.

In most cases, the results are permanent. Following inverted nipple correction, the nipple may retract again in rare cases.

Whether the ability to breastfeed can be preserved depends on the severity of the nipple inversion and the surgical technique required. If the milk ducts need to be divided, the ability to breastfeed may be reduced or lost.

Temporary changes in nipple sensitivity may occur. In many cases, normal sensation returns as the healing process progresses.

The procedure is performed under local anesthesia or, if preferred, under twilight sedation and is generally well tolerated. Any discomfort following surgery can usually be managed effectively.

Most patients can return to their normal daily activities after just a few days. However, sports and strenuous physical activity should be avoided for several weeks.
