Brazilian Butt Lift

A Brazilian Butt Lift is a combination of liposuction and buttock augmentation using autologous fat, where the patient’s own fat cells are harvested, processed, and then injected into the buttocks. The goal is a naturally shaped, round buttock with harmonious transitions to the waist and thighs—without implants.

Compared to buttock implants, a BBL with autologous fat provides a more natural look and feel, a lower risk of complications (e.g., rejection), and almost invisible scars. Additionally, patients benefit from body contouring through liposuction of the abdomen, hips, thighs, or other areas.

The BBL is performed under general anesthesia and takes approximately 3 to 5 hours. First, excess fat is gently harvested through liposuction, processed, and then carefully injected into the buttocks. Popular areas for fat harvesting for a BBL include the lower abdomen, hips, thighs (e.g., saddlebag area), or the back. The choice of donor sites depends on your body shape and the desired result.

After the procedure, compression garments should be worn for 6–8 weeks to support healing. Physical rest is especially important during the first 2–3 weeks. Sitting should be largely avoided during this period to prevent pressure on the transplanted fat. Sports can usually be resumed after about 8 weeks.

Some of the transplanted fat cells are naturally reabsorbed by the body, but the majority integrate permanently. The final result is visible after approximately 3 to 6 months and remains long-lasting as long as body weight is stable.

You should fast before the operation (usually no food or drink for 8 hours before the procedure), and in the long term, a healthy diet with sufficient protein is recommended to support the healing process. Smoking and certain medications should also be discussed beforehand.

Sitting directly on the buttocks should be avoided for at least the first two weeks. After that, a special BBL cushion can help reduce pressure and protect the fat.

Light exercise is usually permitted after a few weeks, but intensive training or weight lifting should only be resumed after medical clearance and complete healing, otherwise this may compromise the result.

BBL primarily improves volume and contour; it is not a means of removing cellulite. Cellulite is caused by other skin and connective tissue structures that are not directly treated by fat transfers.
