When people hear the term cosmetic surgery, they often immediately think of breast augmentation – after all, there are several prominent examples of such a procedure. However, many myths persist, such as the idea that breast augmentation always leads to an unnatural result and that it makes the breasts unnaturally large.
Fortunately, these prejudices are unfounded. If you'd like to learn more about the realistic results achievable with breast augmentation, the maximum breast size after surgery, and the precise procedure involved, then read on.
What is the maximum amount of breast size that should be after breast augmentation?
The question of the ideal size is one of the most frequent in consultations – and at the same time, the most individual. There is no one-size-fits-all answer. Most women primarily want one thing: a natural-looking result that blends harmoniously with their own body. Crucially, the new breasts must be in balanced proportion to the rest of the body silhouette. As a rough guideline, two cup sizes larger is a realistically achievable amount for many women, one that can be easily combined with a natural overall appearance.
Choosing a significantly larger breast size can lead not only to aesthetic problems, but also to functional issues such as back pain or skin irritation in the underbust area. At Livion, balanced planning is therefore always paramount: your wishes are taken seriously, but we also honestly consider whether they can be reconciled with a healthy and harmonious body image in the long term.
Why does the breast shape absolutely have to match the rest of the body.
Every woman has her own unique anatomy – and breast augmentation should be tailored to precisely that. A new breast shape looks most natural when it complements your existing proportions, rather than competing with them. This applies not only to your height and weight, but also to factors such as shoulder width, pelvic shape, and rib cage.
An implant that is too large can impair the body's balance – both visually and functionally. This often manifests as an unbalanced transition to the waist or altered movement patterns.
Is it even possible to achieve natural-looking results with breast augmentation?
The days of oversized silicone breasts with visible edges or artificial shapes are over. Today, thanks to innovative implants, state-of-the-art surgical techniques, and experienced doctors, it is definitely possible to achieve a result that looks natural.
The most important criteria include:
the selection of a teardrop-shaped implant or an anatomical shape that matches the natural breast shape
the placement of the implant under the pectoral muscle
the positioning of the scar in an inconspicuous location (e.g. in the inframammary fold)
adapting the implant to your anatomy and skin condition
What is important when planning a breast augmentation?
A well-planned breast augmentation begins long before the surgery date. The initial consultation focuses not only on size and shape, but primarily on your lifestyle, expectations, and motivation. Many women bring photos or specific ideas – this can be helpful, but of course, it doesn't replace a medical assessment of your individual circumstances.
During the consultation, your body measurements will be carefully taken. Breast width, skin elasticity, and symmetry also play an important role. Based on these measurements, a decision will be made as to which implant size is suitable – or whether augmentation with your own fat is a suitable alternative.
The position of the implant is also determined individually. This includes, among other things, the question of whether the implant is placed above or below the pectoral muscle – or whether a combination of both techniques (dual plane) is advisable.
implant or autologous fat
At Livion, we use two proven methods: breast augmentation with implants and augmentation with autologous fat transfer. Both have their advantages – depending on your goals and your individual physical characteristics.
Breast augmentation with implants is the more common method. The selected implant is inserted through a small incision – usually in the inframammary fold. The surgery takes approximately 60 to 90 minutes and is performed under general anesthesia. After the surgery, you will receive a special compression bra to protect your breasts and aid healing.
Breast augmentation with autologous fat transfer is an alternative for women who desire only a moderate increase in volume. In this procedure, fat is harvested from other areas of the body (e.g., abdomen or thighs), processed, and injected into the breasts. The advantage: Foreign bodies (implants) are not used, and the result feels particularly soft and natural.
We will clarify which method is suitable for you in a detailed consultation.
When will the results be visible after breast augmentation?
Initial results are visible immediately after surgery – however, it takes time for the breasts to fully recover. In the first few weeks, the breasts are often still somewhat swollen or firmer than desired. Depending on the surgical technique and implant, it takes approximately three to six months for the final result to become visible.
Especially with implants placed under the muscle, the tissue takes a little longer to adapt. Scar healing also progresses in several phases. However, many women report a new sense of well-being after just a few weeks.
How long is the healing time?
You should definitely take it easy for the first few days after the operation. Gentle movement is permitted, but strenuous activities or sports are off-limits. Generally, you will be able to return to work fully after about one to two weeks – depending on your profession. You should avoid strenuous exercise for four to six weeks. Wearing a special support bra is also part of the aftercare. This supports healing, stabilizes the result, and reduces the risk of complications.
In the long term, it is important to attend regular follow-up examinations – especially with implants. This ensures that everything stays in place and that your breasts develop as you wish in the long run.
